Her face is so... intriguing. Her eyes are so well detailed, and they just captivated me with their colors, shading, and segregation between layers. I couldn't help but feel better when I saw she was smiling, this piece really reached into my emotions. Shouldn't let that become part of the review though.
Another good thing was the mane. I'm sure you were iffy about this, the description was indicative, but by god was it done well. it looks so well made, certainly not her usual bright style, but in keeping with the rest of this piece, more than a little eye-catching.
but now, to those damn problems...
The major one was her mouth. It was just, i comparison to the rest of her, a gaping hole. no problems with most of the dimensions, but the end was just... open. maybe a bit less detail and/or shading in future?
The snout, too, I found a bit off-kilter. her facial direction shows a look that is not towards us, but her snout appears a bit twisted towards us, a bit out of the normal dimensions of the rest of her.
The ear was a bit of a biggie for me, but more from an aesthetic standpoint than any other. It was just this open funnel leading into her hear, all rolled up and tucked away on top of her head, some interaction with the rest of her head but otherwise just... there.
The last problem was the mane, This is a common problem with her, but the side of her facing us is just bald, and really off-putting. This is probably a common problem with fluttershy, so go ahead and ignore this, I could only think of fixing it by completely changing her mane style, which is just stupid in a piece like this.
All in all, I found this a fantastic piece, and I'm sure you'll give us more like this in future, (should you have the time and inclination) and here's a 9./10!
Pros:
- You have captured her personality really well in this. The faint smile paired with the small tear gives a nice sum of her shy personality and tendency to be bullied.
- The colours used really complement each other, there is no one colour that stands out, it all blends in well, including the subtle but noticeable shading; it is not too dark and is in all the correct places.
- The main focus of this image is on the eye, it is well constructed with many layers and gradients included.
Cons:
- Well, if I was to be really, really critical of this, i would say that her jaw line is a smidgen too long.
- Also on the eye, possibly make the pupil a little larger to accentuate it a bit more.
This is really like trying to pull teeth out, as I just find it so hard to find flaws in this. As mentioned before it is truly a fantastic work of art, well done.
